Round Island Pole Electromagnets
Round island pole electromagnets are designed for concentrated holding power in temporary holding, transfer, positioning, and automated parts handling applications.
When energized with a DC power supply, the outer pole produces a north or south magnetic field surrounding the opposite center island pole. This island pole electromagnetic circuit directs magnetic force into the workpiece for strong, controlled holding performance.

Sourcing Note
Round island pole electromagnets should be selected based on the part geometry, contact area, surface condition, voltage requirements, duty cycle, and required safety factor. For best results, review the application details before selecting an electromagnet based only on published breakaway values.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does breakaway force mean on an electromagnet?
Breakaway force is the force required to pull the electromagnet away from the test material under ideal test conditions. Actual performance can be lower depending on air gap, surface finish, material thickness, paint, scale, oil, contact area, and part geometry.
Why does Storch recommend a 50% derating factor?
A derating factor helps account for real-world conditions that reduce holding force. Published breakaway values are based on a dry, unpainted, ground surface, 1" thick mild steel plate under vertical lift conditions.
What is the difference between rear power leads and side power leads?
Rear power lead models route the electrical leads from the back of the electromagnet. Side power lead models route the leads from the side. The best option depends on mounting, wiring clearance, and how the magnet is integrated into the machine or fixture.
Do these electromagnets require DC power?
Yes. These round island pole electromagnets are designed to be energized with a DC power supply matched to the selected voltage and wattage requirements.
Can Storch help select the correct electromagnet?
Yes. Application details such as part size, weight, surface condition, contact area, operating environment, required hold force, available voltage, and duty cycle should be reviewed before final selection.
