Magnetic Rails

Magnetic Rails

Storch Magnetic Rails, also known as the MR series, are engineered for simple installation into new or existing belted conveyor applications. They are used to hold, guide, and position ferrous parts where a high-reaching magnetic field is required.

Magnetic rails are often installed underneath a conveyor belt and are commonly used with magnetic pulleys to help control part movement in can handling, elevation, transfer, and separation applications.

Features

  • Lifetime guarantee of permanent magnet strength
  • Less than 1% magnetic loss in 100 years
  • 304 stainless steel magnet cover
  • Powerful permanent Ceramic 8 magnet material
  • Mild steel tapped backplate

Benefits

  • Easy installation into new or existing conveyors
  • Helps maintain ferrous part position
  • Positive holding can reduce product scrap rates
  • Supports vertical or inclined part elevation
  • Helps separate ferrous parts from non-ferrous materials

Typical Applications

  • Can handling
  • Belted conveyor part control
  • Incline or vertical transfer of ferrous parts
  • Part positioning under conveyor belts
  • Use with magnetic pulleys
Note: Magnetic rails are typically installed underneath the conveyor belt. Final model selection should consider the belt thickness, air gap, part size, part weight, conveyor angle, belt speed, and the amount of magnetic holding force required for the application.

Sourcing Note

Magnetic rails should be selected based on the part being held, the belt and mounting arrangement, available space under the conveyor, air gap between the rail and the part, and whether the application requires horizontal holding, inclined transfer, vertical elevation, or separation. For applications with heavy parts, thick belts, high speeds, or large air gaps, review the details before selecting a rail by size alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are magnetic rails typically installed?

Magnetic rails are commonly installed underneath a conveyor belt so the magnetic field can reach through the belt and help hold or position ferrous parts as they move along the conveyor.

What are magnetic rails used for?

They are used to hold, guide, position, elevate, or separate ferrous parts in conveyor applications. They are often used in can handling and other applications where part control is needed on a moving belt.

Can magnetic rails be used with magnetic pulleys?

Yes. Magnetic rails are often used with magnetic pulleys to help maintain magnetic control of ferrous parts through a conveyor transfer or discharge area.

What affects magnetic rail performance?

Performance is affected by air gap, belt thickness, part material, part thickness, part weight, surface contact, conveyor angle, belt speed, and how the rail is mounted under the belt.

Are magnetic rails permanent magnets or electromagnets?

These MR series magnetic rails use permanent Ceramic 8 magnet material. They do not require electrical power to maintain their magnetic field.
